Each foreign company that carry out contracts in the Kingdom of Norway is obliged to register the company in the Norwegian Business Register, Register of Enterprises. This rule also applies to companies from EU countries. Every foreign company operating in Norway is required to register with the Norwegian Business Register as a so-called NUF. NUF, is an abbreviation for norskregistrert utelandskforetak, which means a foreign company registered in Norway. The registration procedure does not create a new entity, it is a registration of the foreign company for the purposes of the Norwegian Tax Administration, the Business Register, the Labour Inspection and other Norwegian authorities and institutions.
The registration process takes approximately 3-5 weeks and requires the submission of a packet of forms together with the owner/chairman/proxy data, which will be needed for the Norwegian e-administration platform ALTINN. For companies carrying out construction work, the entire registration may require more time due to the mandatory identification cards for construction
