NUF in Norway. What kind of a  company needs to  be registered? Is a NUF a Norwegian company? Questions and answers.

NUF in Norway is a good solution for companies exporting services and working on assingments in Norway. If you want to do business in Norway and have a company in the EU, you do not need to set up a Norwegian company right away. The NUF form is very practical for companies doing business in many European countries.

NUF in Norway. Norway is not a member of the European Union, but is a member of the European Economic Area. Consequently, EU companies wishing to provide services in Norway must be registered in the Norwegian Register of Enterprises and fulfil reporting obligations. Construction companies, electrical installation companies and employment agencies register their parent EU company in Norway. Such a registration model is abbreviated NUF, which stands for ‘foreign company registered in Norway’.

NUF is an abbreviation for the Norwegian term ‘norskregistrert utenlandsk foretak’.

Due to repeated questions on NUF in Norway, we have prepared a short guide. Here are some answers to the questions most often sent to us by our clients interested in registration  of an EU company in Norway.

Is NUF a Norwegian company?

No, it is merely a foreign company registered in Norway for the purposes of assignments in Norway. NUF registration in Norway allows for correct accounting for Norwegian VAT and reporting on the wages of employees on assignment. NUF can also be useful when we will be required to settle income tax, or if the company will have most of its activities in Norway. Many people misinterpret NUF as a separate entity registered in Norway.

How long does it take to register a foreign company in Norway as an NUF?

Registration takes between four and eight weeks. More information about registration you will find HERE

Where can I find forms for registration?

At www.brreg.no

Are forms available in English?

Some forms are in English, but some forms are only in Norwegian.

Will my company have a Norwegian organ number after registration?

Yes, as a result of registration in Norway, an EU company will have both a its original organization/tax number and a Norwegian organisasjonsnummer for the purposes of its activity in Norway.

Can I register my NUF in Norway online?

No, registration in Norway is only done on paper.

Does entering into a contract with a another EU company for work in Norway oblige my company to register as an NUF?

YES, what is important is where the contract is performed, not where our customer is from. A contract with a Norwegian, German, Polish or Danish company that we perform in Norway means compliance with Norwegian regulations. Therefore, any contract for services that are performed in Norway will undoubtedly force the EU contractor to register.

VAT in Norway. What you should know.

Finally, we remind you that an EU company in Norway that starts to pay Norwegian VAT (MVA) is also obliged to settle the Norwegian VAT in 2-month terms. The Norwegian VAT settlement is done at altinn.no. Many EU companies forget about this obligation. As EU countries are part of the European Economic Area, there is therefore no longer an obligation to have a VAT representative in Norway. More information about VAT duties in Norway.
